Cotton Bags

Why do my canvas bags get "shiny" spots when I iron them?

I've been doing heat transfers on canvas bags, and I've been having problems. Some of my bags have gotten wrinkled or creased, and when I try to iron them, these shiny spots appear on the canvas. Is there any way to save these bags? I want to sell them but can't because of these stupid damages. Help!

  1. Because some canvas bags will have plastic threads in them to make them strong. The heat of the iron is melting the plastic.
  2. direct contact to certain fabric will cause that , so you are best to invest in a Teflon cloth for these task I have one and I don't have any problem when I work on my quilts to position the appliques and using stabilizer. To fix these you might need to add something on the sides like an applique of some sort to cover the spots, http://www.nancysnotions.com/product/supplies/ironing/teflon+pressing+sheet+11+half+x+18.do you can purchase them at the fabric store, hardware store, Wal-Mart, etc...
