how many new plastic bags do you get in a week?
Unless they are biodegradeable and even if they are, they pollute the environment, by being unsightly, blowing around the streets, clogging drains, and filling landfill sights for years and years. They also wreck your fingers if you are carrying heavy items. Why not use a nice cotton or leather bag of your own (much prettier and more with it!)

- I get two or three; I use them for the cat's litter box. They are perfect for that!
- I use my own bags
- my local store recycles them
- None. I've invested in some lovely bags to carry my shopping home in. Plastic bags only end up as 'tree witches' anyhow.
- We use about 6-8 bags a week and I get your point but for heavy shoppers it wouldn't be inconvenient to carry a material bag unless we took a suitcase to the supermarket.
- i don't get any. i always use my own reusable bag.
- i only shop once every week or so. not too many bags each time. i save the plastic bags for friends who have dogs (we live in a city that requires cleaning up after your pet) or i use them to carry my lunch. maybe i'll look into knitting my own bags. thanks for the idea!
- Too many plastic bags get used out here. Only one store recycles them and of course it is across town. I end up with a ton of them by the time I get to recycle. I do prefer however to use paper since we have paper recyclers all over the place and they are very convenient.
- I shop at Costco and most items are put in boxes which can be recycled. There needs to be more organized recycling / trash / greenery program. Although my neighborhood has all 3, there are areas in the city that have different programs or not at all.
- 15, but i do reuse them for kitty litter
- I don't generally buy plastic bags because I recycle the ones I get from the grocery store to use to throw my trash out in. I do agree that people need to be more environmentally conscience and not throw them out in the streets, like they do with their plastic bottles and cans. Perhaps if we had a recycling plan in effect where we were given cents back for taking in the plastic bags, that might ease part of the problem. I don't have a problem bringing my own cloth bag to the market to take my groceries home in, but sometimes you need more than one bag to seperate your frozen goods, from fragile paper goods, such as greeting cards. We all need to care more about our environment. I know I always recycle my cans, glass, and plastic bottles, and I seperate my trash so that the recyclable matter goes into my blue trash can. I know I am doing my part.
- Am told presently a plastic bag is charged for in Europe and 5 cents in some American states. At the grocer's formerly they inquired," Paper or plastic?" When bags originally appeared, I was stunned and amazed. All that talk about the environment and then non-degradable plastic bags EVERYWHERE? People can even bring 2-3 bags from home in pocket of jacket or purse when shopping.
- A stack of them. We use them to put garbage in or to store things. It's cheaper than buying many boxes of garbage bags.
