Why is liquor sold in paper bags?
I don't think i have ever received a plastic bag upon exiting a liquor store. If i get a bag, it's brown paper. Any reason behind this that anyone can think of?

- because its not allowed to be seen in public.
- so people cant see it, not really sure what the point of that is though
- cuz its easier to hold and when glass is covered in paper it doesnt break as easily...
- some places give plastic bags. brown paper goes back to a time when people were drinking on the corner. drinking in public was illegal but not enforced as much if you were discrete, and paper bags would soak up any bit that dribbled from the bottle with out getting slick. losing the bottle was a bad thing.
- its put in bags if you want,it makes me think so people can try and hide whats in the bag, lol,i really dont know
- Because you can hide the liquor and so that people dont no what your drinking lol
- It's so the Baptists can buy liquor too !
- Ever put a few bottles of liquor in a plastic bag and try to carry it, it clanks around like crazy, it's also likely to rip right through the bottom. Paper bags are actually stronger, and more likely to keep the bottles from moving around as much. In many southern states open container laws are very lax, so if you have a paper bag around your 40oz of Old English the fuzz won't mess with you while you're hanging out under a bridge waiting for Six Pack Annie...
- Primarily for concealment.
- It's illegal to walk around in public with an open beverage; it hides your booze from the kids raised on DARE, and makes it easier for passing cops to see they just bought it and it probably isn't open (unless they're drinking out of the bag). Also, alcohol bottles are relatively heavy and will rip a plastic bag easily. Paper is a lot stronger.
