Why do some fans wear paper bags over their head at sporting events?

I usually see this in highlights of teams that aren't doing very well, their fans wear paper bags over their heads, such as Washington Wizards fans, but why?

1. thats easy. they're embarrassed to be their fans but yet they are still loyal.
2. because they think their cool but they just look like fools HEY THAT RHYMED !
3. could be many reasons but here is a few they took a day off work told the wife i am playing golf today embarrassed by your team took girlfriend and she is ugly
